Festival donation

SPARKLING community work can continue to brighten up Middlewich thanks to a generous donation for a lot of hard work.

Middlewich Clean Team has been given £300 by the Folk and Boat Festival committee for its work during the event.

Janet Chisholm, from the Clean Team, said: "It's wonderful news and it's money that we can spend on the things that are dear to our hearts.

"If you get grants you have to spend them specifically but this £300 can be spent on extra things like more bulbs, more plants, more education in schools and stickers for the children.

"It can be used to encourage our community to be more litter conscious."

Stephen Dent, from the festival committee, said: "Last year we couldn't pay them anything because we made a serious loss but this year it looks like we've made a slight surplus so we're paying them for last year as well.

"They did an absolutely superb job and collected about 100 bags of litter over the weekend - they normally do about six on a Saturday litter pick.

"There wasn't an ounce of litter in the town which makes a big difference when you've got visitors so we're very grateful and they deserve every penny."
