Don't miss your chance to beat the burglars

BURGLARS will not succeed in Middlewich this holiday season with more waves of SmartWater set to protect homes while residents relax on the beach.

Police and Community wardens will be taking to the streets on Monday and again in August to make sure as many homeowners as possible take advantage of free SmartWater kits worth £40.

It follows the first two-day property marking blitz held in the Kinderton area in May.

Alison Gabbott, crime reduction advisor with Cheshire Police, said: "There are some free kits left from when we handed them out in early May.

"We have about 300 so we'll hopefully make a good dent in them with this session - people think a bit more about security when they're going on holiday and people holiday up to the end of August and beginning of September."

The kits will be offered to households in Croxton Lane, Rushton Drive, Rolt Crescent, The Windings, Waterside Way, Beechfield Drive and the roads off it.

Alison said: "We'll go back to Rushton Drive in particular because it's one of the worst areas for burglary at the moment - it's not in high volumes but just enough to get people geared up to being proactive."

The team will be out and about from 4.30pm to 8.30pm and hope to catch people when they return from work.

Each of the hi-tech kits contains a unique bottle of SmartWater which is used to invisibly but permanently mark property.

The SmartWater glows green under ultraviolet light and every house using the liquid is registered on a central database.

Anyone who does not want to be disturbed on Monday can leave a message with Alison by ringing 01244 615949.
