Town beat Ashville

MIDDLEWICH Town extended their winning start to the pre-season with another win on Saturday.

Terry Murphy's men crushed Ashville 4-0, with Mike Brandon and Andy Whitney scoring two goals apiece.

They were joined by new boy Keith Mair, who has joined the Witches from Mid Cheshire League rivals Styal.

The midfielder called Murphy last week and asked if he could sign on.

Murphy said: "It came out of the blue really, but I'm delighted to have him on board as.

"He was their captain, so their loss is our gain."

And Mair was instrumental in Saturday's win.

Murphy added: "It was embarrassing because we could have scored 10 goals - we battered them.

"I'm pleased with how things are going, so I hope we haven't peaked too early.

"It's great to see the performances coming together so soon."

Kyle Dyson and Mike Sandbach have still not called Murphy to let him know if they will be turning out for Town, much to Murphy's disappointment.

"It doesn't look like they're coming back, but it would have been nice to have a phone call letting me know," he said.

Middlewich welcome Holywell to Seddon Street on Saturday when Murphy will give a run out to a striker currently on trial with the club.

l Meanwhile the league fixtures for August have been released by the Mid Cheshire FA.

Town's matches include: Greenall Padgate St Oswalds (away) Saturday, August 12, 3pm, Witton Albion Reserves (home) Wednesday, August 16, 6.30pm, Daten (home) Saturday, August 19, 3pm, Crosfields (away) Tuesday, August 22, 6.30pm, and Knutsford (home) Saturday, August 26, 3pm.
